The Roaches (Blattodea)

Oh, the much-maligned cockroach!  Of the more than 4,500 species described, only a handful can be considered true pests.  Unfortunately those few “bad actors” give the whole Order a terrible reputation.  I thought if I could make people laugh with this song (and the music video) then perhaps we’d be kinder to those 99% species who are beneficial to their ecosystems – such as this Florida outdoors roach:

But who should sing the song?  Well, myself, of course, as Roach number 1!  Next to say “yes” was Jorge Friguls, the Director and special-effects magician of our Blattodea video.  Finally we convinced Bob Isola to join us, by telling him our Grandson would really enjoy seeing his Grandpas acting silly wearing insect costumes.

Blattodea Lyrics
and Song Sample

INTRO

(Roach 1) You think that you know us,

(Roach 2) Think you can control us.

(Roach 3) Boy! Are you wrong!

(ALL) So listen to our song:

(R-1) We are multicolored, red, green or blue

(R-2) Some of us fly while others crawl through.

(R-3) Some of us chirp, but others do hiss.

(ALL) Exterminated we’d surely be missed!

CHORUS

We’re…

(R-1) Gokiburi in Japan,

(R-2) Scarafaggio in Milan,

(R-3) Kakerlake in Dormund,

(ALL) Cucaracha in Cancún.

We live all around you

Surround and astound you.

Night-time approaches,

And we are the roaches!

(R-1) We are in the deserts and deep in the forest,

(R-2) Wide open spaces or even the smallest.

(R-3) Sent on a rocket, in Space we gave birth.

(ALL)  Periplaneta – all over the earth!

CHORUS

We are…

(R-1) Les Cafards in Paris

(R-2) Tilachatta in Delhi

(R-3) Katsarída is in Greek

(ALL) Kakkalakki Reykjavik

We live all around you

Surround and astound you.

Night-time approaches,

And we are the roaches!

(R-1)  So think that you know us? (YOU DON’T!)

(R-2) Or think you control us? (YOU WON’T!)

(R-3) Our favorite home (DON’T YOU BLINK!)

(ALL) Is  behind your fridge (OR UNDER YOUR SINK!)

Gokiburi    Kakerlake

Scarafaggio    Cucaracha

We live all around you

Surround and astound you.

Night-time approaches,

And we are the roaches!
